Scrimia Defence Magazine
By Nova Scrimia

It must be the espresso.  I don’t know how else the gentlemen from Nova Scrimia, a historical and modern combat organization in Italy, could get as much done as they do.  Every few months it seems my friend Gianluca Zanini is writing me about some new project they have going on.  These guys really stay busy!

Nova Scrimia has already produced a number of books and videos, so it seems logical that their next evolution might be into a print magazine.  This new bi-monthly, full color magazine is called Scrimia Defense, and it looks great.

Now, I have seen a lot of magazines published by different groups over the years.  These have ranged from stapled photocopies to slick print publications.  While many of these had great information in their day, Scrimia Defense beats them all hands down on the presentation.

The graphics and layout in the first two issues (#0 February 2005 & #1 April 2005) are very well done, and with the slick paper and full color it makes for a very professional, exciting style for the magazine.  The articles in the first two issues include long stick, hand-to-hand, rapier, buckler, the Bolognese dagger, wrestling, longsword, short stick, and more.

If you read Italian I would say to absolutely check out Scrimia Defense.  If you are learning Italian these would be great to read, as the articles are relatively short and the photos can help you along.

Looks like another good one from Nova Scrimia!
