Integrated Balisong: Practical Butterfly Knife Tactics
On the DVD Integrated Balisong: Practical Butterfly Knife Tactics the idea is not to teach you to become an expert with opening and closing the knife in 100 different ways, but instead to show you how to develop your skills to open and close it at real speed while doing complex freestyle interactive drills with a partner. The actual openings I share are well within anyone's ability to learn, so what makes this material difficult is that you then add layers of pressure and resistance to your training until the most simple thing becomes complex. This is how you gain real skills that you can count on under stress and understand what must be done with the balisong if one is to fully utilize it as a defensive tool. If you've ever wanted to learn how to integrate the balisong with your other Filipino martial arts curriculum then you'll want this DVD. Not a rehash of the basic angles of attack and so on that you already know, but instead we go in depth on the special aspects of the balisong including numerous drills where you'll learn to draw the knife, open and close the knife at speed, and employ attacks best suited to it's configuration. Plus you'll learn what to do when things don't go as planned so for every action you'll have a back up. That way you never get caught thinking "now what?" While I don't recommend that anyone carry a Balisong on the street for legal reasons (as I explain on the DVD) the training is still very useful because it's about attribute development. The balisong requires a great sense of independence between your left and right hands and making both gross-motor and fine-motor skills while under stress. Training with the balisong re-wires your brain in the sense of making this possible. The balisong is also a beautiful part of the historical Filipino martial arts in a cultural sense. The balisong, like the bolo, is as iconic to the Philippines as the Bowie knife is to America! Like learning Filipino folk dance for better understanding the Filipino martial arts, the balisong is a deadly dance of steel that can learn to deepen your appreciation of the art.
